Press ReleasesBroken Spirits launches the Internet Safety Focus GroupFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 2, 2002 - The start of the New Year can be a cleansing of ones soul. Placing the past behind them and looking forward to the next year. With this, the Broken Spirits Network has decided to launch its Internet Safety Focus Group (ISFG) to inspire web masters and viewers alike to take the incentive to protect themselves. By taking part in the focus group you can show others that your site is as safe as it can be and that you are committed to protecting their anonymity. Something a simple as making sure the "Remember my Details" checkbox is unchecked by default on sites that require registration can prevent a cookie being written onto a users machine which can in turn lead to a breach in the viewers safety.
Members of the Internet Safety Focus Group will be listed in the ISFG member directory, resources section, and also on the actual information pages based on the type of abuse the site covers. If you wish to become a member simply read over the guidelines and click on the "Become a Member" button. After you register an editor will read over your site and approve or deny its application based on how well the site follow the guidelines. If something is in question the Webmaster will be contacted and assisted in fixing the breach before his application is approved. As a member you will have a voice in the future of this focus group and can assist in making new guidelines and also giving tips and tricks to other webmasters. In addition to being listed on the Broken Spirits site as a "Safe Site" your site will also have the opportunity to display the ISFG Safe Site Award on your site to inform other viewers that the site is a safe site with minimum security risk. Like the Broken Spirits Network the Internet Safety Focus Group is completely non-profit and does not receive funding of any sort. It is completely funded out of pocket by the volunteers who run this site. It is a free community that will help shape the future of web mastering to a sensitive crowd. In the future we hope this community can grow strong enough to be able to have an influence in the actual development of the web and help shape the future of web development. If you are interested becoming an active participant please feel free to view the ISFG section and register today.
About the Broken Spirits Network
The Broken Spirits Network is an online community and support group that focuses on aiding both current and past victims of child abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. Broken Spirits provides a comprehensive list of shelters, hotlines and organizations that can provide help for potential victims. In addition to the national abuse resource listing is a comprehensive discussion forum where users can create their own virtual identity within complete confidentiality. This allows people to discuss the happenings of their life without letting others know who they really are. Another point of interest is the information section of the site where you can find a reference of common symptoms of abuse and also find methods to prevent becoming a victim. With the help of the media, abuse related organizations, and the friends & families of victims, the Broken Spirits Network hopes to provide essential attention to victims in need.
